That You Leave Here Healed

When I arrived in Enugu one year, I found a large open trench running along the side of the house, a trench in which the main water line was placed to supply the entire area. There was a break in the water line and certain neighbors tossed rubbish and even sewage in the area. We went at once to the waterboard which could not say how soon they could correct this health problem because their catepillar had spoiled and they lacked funds to repair the leak. I contributed my limited personal funds to make a repair because contaminated water posed a real health threat. This title, "That You Leave Here Healed", is taken from the slogan of a Medical Center proposed by Dr. (Mrs.) Eseohe Ayodele Aneziokoro who is passionately concerned about public health. In a discussion with Dr. Aneziokoro, I have discovered that we share many common perceptions regarding health. My presentation will discuss the goals of the proposed medical center and show how they coincide with my efforts to encourge healthful housekeeping and attention to nutrition and my efforts to make the house in Enugu, which I have rented since 1997, both beautiful, and safe.
