ABSTRACT
This paper examines the uses of charms and Juju among the Yoruba people of South Western Nigeria during the Yoruba civil wars in the nineteenth century.
The main problem identified in this study shows that there is the paucity of adequate historical information relating to the use of charms and juju among the Yoruba people. It is therefore against this background that this study needs a scholarly and historical interpretation.

The data used in this study will be obtained from oral information collected from the elders of the Yoruba community, Muslim clerics, traditional rulers, chief priest of various Yoruba communities as well as other secondary sources that are accessible.
Our findings reveals that charms and juju among the Yoruba people are used as protective devices to prevent attack from aggressive groups so as to gain victory in battle field. Ultimately, this paper will add to the existing knowledge of the military history of the Yoruba people and its associated practices.
