Image Index > Age-Equal Adolescent Interactions > Dionysus Reclines With A Bearded Man

The god Dionysus is seated together on a banqueting couch with a man, who is fully adult but still young and vigorous, with a short-cropped beard. The man looks directly at Dionysus, who appears to look beyond him. In light of the Erotic themes on the sides of the cup, are we to see Dionysus here as an enabler of the man's love (cf. Anacreon, 1.30)? Or are we to imagine the man as himself the beloved of Dionysus?
