Image Index > Athletic Scenes > Adult Trainer Touches Youth, Visitor Is Rejected By Another

On the left, a trainer (identified by the forked stick) supervises two naked athletes, and reaches out with his hand to position one athlete's back. On the right, we see another bearded man surrounded by two naked athletes, but he carries an ordinary walking staff and thus appears to be an admirer, not a trainer. Like the trainer, he also reaches out with one hand, but the boy in front of him moves away and makes what appears to be a gesture of refusal, looking straight back at the man for emphasis. The scene serves to parallel the activities and interests of the lover and trainer, emphasizing that the gymnasium was a prime location for pederastic courtship.
