Image Index > Athletic Scenes > Adult Trainer Threatens Young Athlete With A Sandal

An adult trainer and two young athletes. the trainer wields a sandal to discipline the athlete on the right, who is about to throw a javelin. The sandal is elsewhere found in erotic contexts (see Kilmer). Could some disagreement over a repelled advance be the source of conflict here? Note the kalos inscription ("Beautiful") on the hanging satchel between the youth and trainer. Or is this not a scene of conflict? The youth on the left holds hand weights and looks out at the audience, as if to appeal to us for help.
