Image Index > Banquet Scenes > Another Scene Of The Same

Three men on banquet couches, served by one naked boy. Here the boy does not hold a wine pitcher, like the boys on Side A, but what may be a sponge. Perhaps his function is to sponge sweat off the bodies of men who have been drinking heavily in the hot Mediterranean climate. His free left hand reaches out to grasp the man's extended hand, or perhaps receive something from him. As on Side A, the pleasure of viewing and even touching naked boys is part of the aesthetics of banqueting. Receiving a sponge bath could also be a pleasurable part of the experience.
