Councils of the Church in the Frankish lands were making decrees in this period aimed at preventing Jews from having any authority over Christians. Jews were forbidden by such decrees to have Christian servants or wetnurses. It hardly seems surprising, given the general tenor of this charter, that Bishop Rudiger was willing to explicitly grant Jews the right to have Christian servants.
