Jewish law requires that slaughtered animals be inspected for certain anomalies. The meat from kosher animals found to have these anomalies (a missing organ, for example) was considered not kosher. Christians, however, who were not bound by Jewish law, were free to eat such meat. Why do you think having such a clause placed in the Speyer charter was deemed necessary?
