Thomas Paine

In London in 1774 Thomas Paine met Benjamin Franklin, who convinced him to emigrate to America. In America Paine became involved in the revolutionary movement and published the influential pamphlet "Common Sense" in 1776, which called for a break from England based on simple facts relating to the reality that the colonies had lost touch with the mother country.
