Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton joined the women's suffrage movement in the late 1840s and early 50s, and worked tirelessly to obtain equal citizenship rights for women. They founded the American Equal Rights Association in 1866, and in 1868 they began publishing the women's rights newspaper "The Revolution." Both women served as presidents of the National American Women Suffrage Association. Neither woman lived to see women granted the right to vote, as they both died in the early 1900s, yet much of the success of the women's rights movement can be attributed to their efforts.
