Public's Sources of Political Information during Election Campaigns

Television became the dominant news source for campaign information by the late 1950s. Since the 1960s, television has been the primary source of information for 80% to 90% of the public, with newspapers and radio declining in importance throughout those years. Still, just over half the public also gets campaign information from newspapers, and about one third of the public gets campaign information from radio. The distribution will likely change more with the growing use of the Internet as a source of political information.
