Justice Thurgood Marshall

In 1967 President Lyndon Johnson nominated Thurgood Marshall to the be the first African American Supreme Court Justice, where he served until 1991. Prior to serving on the Supreme Court Thurgood Marshall was an influential lawyer, working as chief counsel for the NAACP and arguing numerous cases, including Brown v. Board of Education, before the Supreme Court.
