Tax Burdens and Budget Deficits

Beginning with the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001, the Bush Administration has sought to lighten the tax burden in the United States. This 2003 cartoon from Pulitzer prize winner Ann Telnaes points out that recent tax cuts are often perceived as mainly helping the wealthy, and that they have contributed to the the rising annual deficits which have grown significantly under the Bush Administration.
