Created in 1913, the Federal Reserve is the central banking system for the United States. It is headed up by a board of governors and a chairman who supervise and regulate banks, implement monetary policy, and control the amount of currency that is in circulation. This collage shows the current Chairman Ben Bernanke who took over for long-serving chairman Alan Greenspan in 2006, who is also pictured. There is a photo of the Federal Reserve building, and a newspaper clipping from 1913 announcing the passage of the Federal Reserve Act.
