This chart is designed to show shares of family income by each population quintile. Each quintile has an equal number of households. Comparison of the share of income by quintiles is a measure of equality/inequality. Pure equality would produce quintiles each with 20 percent of the income. From the pie-chart, we can see that the household income of the highest quintile accounts for 49.8 percent of all household income, while fourth quintile family income accounts for 23.4 percent of total household income. The lowest quintile shares just 3.4 percent of household income. The second quintileshares 8.7 percent and the third quintile shares 14.8 percent.
