This chart is designed to show presidents' use of the veto power from Truman to Clinton. The X-axis represents each president's name; the Y-axis enumerates the number of vetoes. For each president, there are four bars, each describing Regular Vetoes, Pocket Vetoes, Total Vetoes, and Vetoes Overridden. The graph shows that the veto power was used quite frequently during the Truman and Eisenhower administrations. It was also used with elevated frequency during the Nixon, Ford, and Reagan presidencies when a condition of divided government existed.
