The Governor is the chief executive of the state, and is not a federal officer. The position of Governor is a directly elected office in all fifty states. The Governor runs the state executive branch and holds the power to veto bills, and serve as commander-in-chief of the state national guard, among other things. Pictured here are several nationally recognized current and former governors, including Jennifer Granholm (Michigan), Lowell Weicker (Connecticut), Jeb Bush (Florida), Arnold Schwarzeneggar (California), Jesse Ventura (Minnesota) and Bill Richardson (New Mexico).
