Q: Are the materials available on a CD?
A: No. While we are aware that some users may prefer to have a CD at hand, we opted to keep the materials on the web, and update them frequently. We do not plan to produce a CD with the mateirals.
Q: Where can one fine transcripts of the sound files and videos?
A: Many users have requested such transcripts, and we are aware that accessibility consideration might justify their use as well. We feel, however, that since the audio and video files are included for the purpose of developing the listening comprehension skill, the availability of transcripts would work against the very purpose of the materials. We do not, therefore, provide such transcripts.
Q: I cannot see Hebrew, or I see it backwards. What can I do?
A: This may indicate an older operating system or browser. After years of attempting to accomodate all platforms and browsers, we decided to focus on the setting that the majority of users are likely to have-- Windows as the operating system, and Internet Explorer as the browser. In this setting, with IE 5.1 or higher, one should be able to read Hebrew without difficulty. Macintosh or Unix users with the browsers Explorer 5+, Netscape 6.2+, or Mozilla 0.9.8+ should be able to work with most of the materials as well. Make sure that you have the recent version of the browser you are using. You may want to check the following sites: Explorer | Netscape | Mozilla (but before you download, check that your operating system is appropriate for the browser!)
Q: The tutorials, videos, or sound files do not load. What is the reason?
A: This used to be the most frequently asked question. Almost invariably the appropriate player or plugin for the browser has not been installed on the user's machine. We are receiving less and less queries of this kind, primarily because we are now using players and plugins that come with most machines. Quicktime, RealPlayer, Flash, and Shockwave are required for different sections of the site, and we will refer to such requirements on the introductory pages for these sections, and provide links for download. Once you download and install the plugin or player, you should have full functionality.
