  • Self-Study Idiom Quizzes
    Designed primarily for ESL students, this site is a collection of activities ranked by difficulty that deal with idioms, phrasal verbs and expressions, and slang. This is a project of The Internet TESL Journal, and the site has contributions by many teachers.     English idioms and quizzes that should prove extremely useful. The idioms can be accessed alphabetically or by topic.

  • Spanish-English Idioms
    An interesting site for Spanish teachers who wish to give their students a number of Spanish idioms with English equivalents. Teachers may also want to check out the link to Los Beatles from this site. There are a couple of their songs with complete lyrics in English and Spanish, musical accompaniment, and an online test.

  • Toon In To Idioms
    This page comes from Adam Rado's English Learning Fun site. These materials are used in the ESL programs at UCLA and Santa Monica City College.

  • Commonly-Used Proverbs
    Charles and Lawrence Kelly created these exercises and games to help teach proverbs. While they are part of the site Interesting Things for ESL Students, other teachers would probably find them useful. Answers are provided.

  • Chinese Proverbs
    These annotated proverbs are in Roman script and are in alphabetical order. They could enrich lesson plans on a number of classroom topics.

  • Creative Proverbs From Around the World
    This site created by Franklin C. Baer allows you to search 12,000 proverbs from 300 countries and cultures and browse proverbs from 100 countries and cultures. The links to 100 Countries and Cultures include approximately 2000 Creative Proverbs.
