Idioms and Proverbs: Terminology
Some of these words may have other meanings; the meanings listed below are the ones relevant to the activity
Fable: A short tale that teaches a moral lesson.
Idiom: A saying whose meaning does not correspond to the total sum of the individual words, e.g., "flying by the seat of your pants" meaning "making a decision as you go along."
Proverb: A didactic saying, usually of ancient origin, that expresses common wisdom, e.g., "Don't count your chickens before they hatch."
