Student Computer Labs
Funding is available for one-time lab costs for student computer labs. Priority will be given to
replacing obsolete equipment (over 4 years old) in existing labs. A strong case must be made for the
pedagogical necessity of the lab. Special consideration will be given to projects that provide students
with access to equipment and software that are not readily available elsewhere. Be sure to list the
classes and number of students that will use the labs, as well as estimate how often the equipment will be used.
Early funding for Student Computer Labs will be available during Summer 2008, as well as during the
2008-2009 academic year.
Eligible costs include, but are not limited to:
- Computer equipment and software (A four-year replacement cycle is generally presumed for
computer equipment. Cost per station should average $250-$500 per year over the computer's lifecycle.)
- Purchase and installation of multimedia equipment
- Electrical and lighting upgrades
- Network upgrades (see Networks)
- Furniture and Architectural Renovation (limited availability)
Funding is NOT available for:
- Faculty or staff computer equipment
- Teaching Assistants or Lab Proctors
- Tuition, fees or scholarships for student employees
- Recurring salary, wages, supply, and M&O costs
Do not propose the addition of new labs without approval for use of proposed space. If architectural
renovation is necessary, indicate the source of funding. Technology Grant funding for furniture and
architectural renovation is rare, and other funds will generally be required to cover these costs.
