Servers
While the College of Liberal Arts and Liberal Arts ITS strongly recommends the use of central
university systems, limited funding is available for departmental network servers. Proposals must
demonstrate the need for a department-based server, clearly describe the instructional value of
the server, and include a plan for systems administration, including: security, data backup, and
sources for recurring salary costs. Projects must be of primary benefit to students in the
College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin.
Funding is available for:
- Equipment
- One-time software costs
- Programming
- System setup and configuration
- Electrical, HVAC, and other server-related renovation
- Network upgrades (see Networks)
Funding is NOT available for:
- Recurring software and maintenance contracts
- Recurring salary, wages, supply, and M&O costs
