Scanning Services
The LAITS Scanning Service is available to all Liberal Arts instructors who would like to have
images they use for educational purposes converted into a digital format and made available
to them on CDs or on the web. The service is free and on a first-come, first-served basis,
and we accept collections of up to 200 images. The staff consists of two full-time and two
part-time employees with several years' experience between them dedicated to scanning and
color-correcting images.
The process begins with an initial meeting to discuss how many images the project will consist
of and the types of materials it will involve. We will discuss how the instructor wishes to
use the images, the different images sizes and formats available, and will provide an estimated
completion date for their project. We will provide disks of the images which can be used in
any media classroom, eliminating the need for slides and slide projectors, and we can also make
the collections available through an online application if the instructor wishes.
