Causative forms of Verbs 動詞の使役形

Verb Conjugation: Causative

Intransitive Verbs make ... do; let ... do

N1 が N2
N1 が N2

N1 makes N2 do ... (coercive)
N1 lets N2 do ... (permissive)

私はむすめ大学へ/に行かせる
I make my daughter go to college.
(My daughter doesn’t want to go to college.)

私はむすめ大学へ/に行かせる
I let my daughter go to college.
(My daughter wants to go to college.)

Causative sentence is not used when N2 is higher in status or age than N1.
When N2 is equal or superior to N1, use te-form of the verb + もらう/いただく
先生にこの本を読んでいただきました。(Our teacher read this book for us.)

 
Transitive Verbs make ... do; let ... do

N1 が N2 (〜を)~
N1 が N2 (〜を)

N1 makes N2 do ... (coercive)
N1 lets N2 do ... (permissive)

林さんは本田さんビールを飲ませた
Hayashi made Honda drink beer.
(Honda didn't want to drink beer.)

林さんは本田さんむりやりビールを飲ませた
(むりやり= forcing)

林さんは本田さんビールを飲ませた
Hayashi let Honda drink beer.
(Honda wants to drink beer.)

Te-form of causative form +

ください

先生、もっとしゅくだいをさせてください。(Please let me do more homework assignments.)
お母さん、毎日ごはんを作らせてください。(Mother, please let me cook everyday.)

いただけないでしょうか。

先生、もっと宿題をさせていただけないでしょうか。(Would you please let me do more homework assignments.)


asking not to make you do something Please don't make me do…

Neg. te-form of causative verbs +

ください

先生、あまりしゅくだいをさせないでください。(Please don't make me do so many homework assignments.)
