There are more than 85 million speakers of Telugu, which is spoken in Andhra Pradesh, India and among Indian diaspora. Telugu language and literature is a major part of Indian culture. Great poet Sri Sri's poetry and Viswanatha's prose, Bapu's cartoons, ever-inspiring women's movements, the exciting Telugu film world (Tollywood), and the impressive achievements of the Telugu Diaspora are the prides of Telugu. Telugu folk-arts, textile painting and Kuchipudi dance are world-famous. Hyderabad, the capital of the Telugu-speaking Andhra Pradesh state is famous for its Indo-Muslim culture while the remaining regions, Telangana, Coastal Andhra and Rayala Seema represent rich traditions of social life.
First year Telugu is being offered in 2007-2008. It is not possible to major or minor in Telugu.
