Description

I noticed that many children were bundled up in a very padded way. This child looks like he has pillows in his pants! It could deal with the fact that they have to keep kids warm in a budget conscious way.

We asked our guide in Xi'an

We asked our guide in Xi'an about the split pants and she said that it was easier to potty train kids with those. All we could think was how messy it was, but as everyone else has mentioned, they seem to place more value on the children and are less concerned with the extra work/burden for themselves.

It was clear the children

It was clear the children were the parent's primary focus.  Parents in China will do anything and everything to protect their child and differentiate them from others (especially in the classroom).  However, I think all that attention would be draining and cause children to loose their independence & creativity, which I think is an unfortunate downfall of China's one-child-policy.

Puffy

I noticed the extreme puffiness of the outerwear also and couldn't decide if it was just a fashion difference or if perhaps that type of attire is cheaper and thus more warmth for their buck!

One Child Policy

When you can only have one child - you need to make sure you take care of him/her.  Chinese parents do just that!

Social Organization

Everywhere we went the kids were bundled up and the parents seemed to take great care of their kids. They hold hands, sit in laps on the subway, it was all about the kids.
