Face masks were very common in all Chinese cities we visited. We all definitely felt the impact of the pollution, so this is not unexpected. This picture also shows how food is displayed in a form that would be surprising in the states - full birds. No one in the US would want to see birds hanging in the window!
Great picture showing both the dynamic of the fask masks that were pervasive among the local residents and also the very conspicuous display of duck in lots of restaurant windows. I think it is interesting how so many people wear the face masks and I think that dynamic would be very disconcerting to visitors who were not aware of the reasons for people wearing those face masks.
This is a good example of the non-verbal cues being different in other cultures. I definitely wouldn't want to eat that food either and it's a little shocking to see!
