Leaving the Forbidden City you pass through a series of doorways and tunnels. As we crossed through the final tunnel I was captured by this image - a horizon of red flags. This represents an inevitable theme pretty much everywhere you go - not saying this is good or bad, just that Chinese government does a good job at non-verbally keeping the country top of mind. Granted we were near a government facility, but I used to work a couple of blocks away from the White House and didn't see nearly as many US flags.
