In this photo, a child at the Experimental School bows to us after making his speech. This behavior symbolizes politeness and respect to elders and visitors and would not happen in the US.
I really like this photo. I think Darcey is right on with the emphasis on respect for elders with and the bowing representing a sort of acquiescing type gesture. I was also thoroughly impressed with the quality of English that these students spoke to the group.
