Inside the Panthéon, a statue reads "Aux Orateurs et aux publicistes de la Restuaration" (To the Orators and Publishers of the Restoration). This shows the high esteem of which writers and speakers are held in French culture, especially the culture of the Revolution and the time period afterward. The entirety of the Panthéon is a monument to the great men, not the gods, and is a testament to the secular habits and intentions of the new Republic.
