Description

This chapel, found on a prominent hill overlooking the Beaujolais country, exemplifies how deeply Beaujolais culture is entrenched in the production of wine. The French family I was with said that the chapel was built to thank the Virgin Mary for protecting the Beaujolais vineyards from a pestilence. Note that in addition to a statue of the Virgin, the decorations on the sides of the chapel are actually wine grapes and leaves.
