Description

Students take courses from learning centers (cram schools) during after-school hours or weekends to prepare for the high school or college entrance exams. Some students choose to take a year-long program before re-taking the annual entrance exam after graduation, trying to get into prestigious universities. Language academies offering English and Japanese programs can also be found in these buildings. Getting degrees from prestigious schools and developing English proficiency is important to most Taiwanese people as it seems to be a big step in gaining social economic status.
