The green swath through the middle of the image is one end of a park that encircles the entire old city (to the left of the image). This beautiful public space for recreation and quiet rose in the 19th Cent. when the obsolete fortified city wall with battlements nearly 15m high was torn down. Truly a case of beating swords into plowshares.
