During my 6 week stay in Lyon in the summer of 2013, I observed a phenomenon that, to say the least, took me by surprise. The preferred mode of transportation for many Lyonnais was the foldable kick scooter! These peaked in popularity in the United States in the late 90s and early 2000s, mostly among young children. In Lyon, however, the trend is still alive and... 'kicking'! (Sorry, bad pun.) And they are not only popular among children! Many--and I mean MANY--adult Lyonnais also use them! Pictured is one older Lyonnais gentleman that enjoys these scooters.
