Description

This is the menu for a small restuarant in Paris named "O Philos' Off." This picture, which I took on the first day in France, was exciting to me because it allowed me to view the menu outside, without confrontation or the possibility of offending someone if I decided not to stay at their establishment. These outside menus, which decorate the side of almost every restaurant entranceway in France, are a great example of the high-context culture that exists. France epitomizes a high-context culture, in which people avoid blunt communication and instead are polite and "save face" the majority of time. I prefer this cultural system, because it provides for certain "outs" from situations, so that feelings aren't hurt. From this, as well as other situations in France that I've seen, I think that I fit in well here!
