This photo was taken in Chamonix, France, which is world renowned for its skiing and winter sports. This sign was found in a lift that transported up to ten people to “La Mer de Glace,” or the glacier located on the north side of Mont Blanc. This sign is extremely unique because of its location in a region that is known for its high altitudes and extremely cold weather. The fact that this sign is placed in many public areas shows how common it is for a person to have an ice ax with them. These signs were found in all of the lifts and in other crowded places. This sign proves that it is not a big deal to have large and rather dangerous objects with a person. This sign is not found commonly in other cities in France because of such a drastic difference found in the environment of Chamonix.
