The stork is the regional emblem of Alsace and symbolizes happiness and faithfulness. One can find nests through Alsace in high places atop churches or trees. Recently, the species was becoming endangered; however, effective efforts have been made to increase the population. The village of Hunawihr even has a stork park with over 200 storks amongst other animals.
