Chamonix is “le capital d’alpinisme,” hence, the environment is extremely important to the people there. The economy depends almost exclusively on the tourism and alpine sports industries; both of these exist because of the Alps and the surrounding environment. The environment of Chamonix is specific and unique to the city and plays a major role in it’s economic success.
