O ijexá é fundamentalmente um ritmo de origem religiosa, sagrada. Ele vem, né? do candomblé. Ele se fez no candomblé, veio da Africa. Talvez tenha sofrido uma modificação no Brasil, mas é um ritmo originalmente africano, essencialmente africano, tocado ainda hoje nas casas de candomblé e nas festas profanas, principalmente da Bahia, também no Rio de Janeiro, Recife, talvez em outras localidades.

Ijexá is fundamentally a rhythm of sacred, religious origin. It comes from Candomblé. It was made in Candomblé, it came from Africa. Perhaps it has gone through some modifications in Brazil, but it is originally an African rhythm, essentially African.
