About This Site
Terrorists, Insurgencies, and Guerrillas in Education and Research (TIGER) is a Web site devoted to academic instruction and research on terrorism. The site features data, research, and instructional content produced by terrorism expert Dr. Ami Pedahzur of the Department of Government at the University of Texas at Austin and his colleagues at the National Security Studies Center (NSSC) at the University of Haifa. Dr. Pedahzur may be reached via email at ap2976@mail.la.utexas.edu.
Data at this site were produced and are made available through the generosity of the NSSC. Principal investigators on the Terrorism Data project include:
Gabriel Ben-Dor
Chair of the School of Political Sciences and the Director of the National Security Studies Center, both at the University of Haifa. A past Rector of the University and former President of the Israel Political Science Association, he has also served as director of the institute of Middle Eastern Studies and as Chair of the Jewish Arab Center. In two occasions (1976 and 1991) he chaired an advisory commission to the Government of Israel on Druze affairs, on which he is a leading expert in the scholarly community. During the years 1995-1996 he served as Chairman of the Governmental Committee of the Development of Infrastructure of Social Sciences in Israel. He has published seven books and over one hundred and twenty articles on Middle East politics, civil-military relations, conflict resolution and ethnic politics. His most recent publications deal with minorities in the Arab world and Israeli national security.
Ami Pedahzur
Associate professor at the Departments of Government and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Texas at Austin. He is also a senior fellow at the National Security Studies Center (NSSC) at the University of Haifa. His main fields of interest are terrorism and political extremism. His latest book, Suicide Terrorism, was published by Polity Press in 2005. Currently he is studying terrorist networks as well as the role of intelligence in countering terrorism. During the years he has published in journals such as Social Forces, Social Science Quarterly, Political Studies, Party Politics, Armed Forces and Society, Deviant Behavior, Studies in Conflict and Terrorism and Terrorism and Political Violence.
Arie Perliger
Lecturer in the Department of Political Science and a fellow at the National Security Studies Center (NSSC) at the University of Haifa. During the past five years he has been working in the fields of terrorism, political violence and extremism and the principal ways democratic states respond to these challenges.
