The party identification question was asked in two parts. First, respondents were asked if they consider themselves a Democrat, Republican, Independent, or Other. If they indicated that they are Democrats or Republicans, they were then asked if they consider themselves to be strong Democrats (Republicans) or not so strong Democrats (Republicans). If they indicated that they are independents, they were then asked if they lean toward one party or the other or are pure independents.
The table does not include those who responded "Other" or who indicated that they are not sure about their party identification (or lack thereof). Approximately 12% of respondents answered as such and are therefore not included in this pie chart.
