A group of us went to Xi'an after the trip ended and found an Irish pub to visit on St. Patrick's Day. I was greeted by... Michael Jackson! First, even finding such an establishment was a huge feat in this city that had significantly less English than anywhere else we had visited. Second, I was somewhat startled to see MJ (albeit an Asian version of MJ). What was interesting was that MJ gave a performance in English, rather than Chinese. Hardly any of the bartenders spoke English! However, most of the bar patrons predominantly were English-speaking (American, Irish, British, etc.). Very interesting to see such an (unexpected) adaptation to the environment!
