Hugo Alexánder Silva López
Intern, Banco de Lara
Mérida, Venezuela

My name is Hugo Alexánder Silva López. With the first question, describe in detail the responsibilities that you have at your work. In my case, it depends on the responsibilities given to me, depending on the job I'm in. As an intern, I have to rotate in all positions. Up to now I've been in proofing, in the proofing department and in the exchange department, the one I'm in now. As interns we don't have specific responsibilities, because we are learning. And so we have the right to make mistakes, because we are learning. But our responsibility up to this point is to learn, being an intern, right?

With the second question, describe in detail the activities of a typical day at work. Well, we arrive in the morning, we file the prior day's work. We keep it in our file. And when the bank opens to the public, we serve them. And in the exchange department where I'm at currently, we send out cashier's checks to the banks, to the clients. In the proofing department, we review all the deposits and withdrawals made in the bank. To see, that is, to verify everything, if there is an error in the deposits or in the withdrawals, to find them and avoid them, right?

With the third question, what is the part of the job that you like most and why? Well, I enjoy most the proofing department, since it is a very involved department, where everything happens, absolutely everything related to the bank. And therefore it is where I learn the most things about the bank, right?

With the fourth, what is the most difficult part of the job and why? The most difficult part, is to balance, to balance the bank. At the end of the afternoon, of the day, you have to balance with the tellers and balance with the accountant, with the exchange department and with the data entry tellers all at the same time. When everything is balanced, then, your department is balanced otherwise, no.

Describe the techniques, training or knowledge that are necessary to do this job. The course that I took to enter this bank was Lisbanca. There we receive a series of courses, related to the bank. Like banking fundamentals which teaches you what a check is, a bill of exchange, promissory notes, everything related to the bank. And other courses that are not related to the bank but are given to you. First, the courses teach you theory and afterward they send you to the banks to get practical experience and you work for a predetermined period and if you pass the internships then you pass the course.

Describe your work experience with foreigners. In the course that I took they gave us a subject called English, since banks receive many foreign clients. And most know English, since it is a universal language. And yes I've had clients, I've helped foreign clients in the English language and I've waited on them well. Well, I understand them and they understand me too, I suppose.
