John Stuart Mill

Footnote #05
The Universities did improve

Much of what is here said of the Universities, has, in a great measure, ceased to be true. The legislature has at last asserted its right of interference; and even before it did so, those bodies had already entered into a course of as decided improvement as any other English institutions. But I leave these pages unaltered, as matter of historical record, and as an illustration of tendencies. [1859.]
