The Enfranchisement of Women

Harriet Taylor Mill and John Stuart Mill

Source of the Text

The essay ``The Enfranchisement of Women'' originally appeared in the Westminister Review in 1850. The occasion was a woman's rights convention in the U.S. earlier that year. The essay is apparently a joint effort by Harriet Taylor Mill and John Stuart Mill, but appeared originally under the latter's name. I digitized it from a reprint in an edited collection of Mill's writings, called Socialism, published in 1891 (W.D.P. Bliss, editor, Humbolt Publishing, New York). I am hopeful I can get a copy soon of Volume 2 of Dissertations and Discussions to correct the text. [Paul Lyon]
