The Principles of Political Economy

Henry Sidgwick

Introduction, Chapter 2, Footnote #05
Maybe not more complex

The statement in the text represents, I think, the general view of economists, which I am here trying to give; but it does not exactly represent my own view as regards one of these disturbing causes, viz. voluntary Combination. For Combination among the sellers of any commodity places the persons combining in a position economically similar to that of a monopolist; and though the laws that govern prices under the condition of monopoly are different from those that result from free competition, I do not perceive that they are necessarily more complex. Cf. post, Bk. ii. ch. ii. and ch. x.
