Spanish speakers describe injuries with the verb TENER as in "Ella tiene una cortada en el brazo." The adjective form must agree in number and gender with the noun it modifies. For example, "el brazo quebrado" (broken arm), "la pierna quebrada" (broken leg).

When speaking of fractures, the terms in Spanish are "fractura simple, fractura compuesta, fractura múltiple."

  Usted tiene el brazo quebrado. You have a broken arm.
  Yo tengo una quemadura aquí. I have a burn here.
  La cortada está grave. The cut is severe.
