Welcome to the 2010 Africa Conference at the University of Texas at Austin

This year’s theme is Women, Gender, and Sexualities in Africa, and it is our 10th annual African conference at the University of Texas at Austin.  This year, we are extremely excited about the conference because of the large number of participants it has attracted and we hope it will live up to the success of the previous nine conferences. The abstracts that we have received are not only impressive, but diverse as well.

Issues involving Women, Gender, and Sexualities remain a vital component of the daily lives for most peoples across the globe and in particular for many Africans. The submitted abstracts look to ignite lively and interesting debates, and the panels will reflect the diverse and expansive effects popular cultures have made throughout Africa and across the world. This year’s conference will bring together distinguished scholars from various disciplines, countries, and backgrounds. We anticipate thought-provoking discussions to occur during the conference.

Sincerely,

Toyin Falola
