History of the battle of Torreón

“La Toma de Torreon,” or the conquest of Torreon occurred on May 15, 1911 by Madero’s troops. The revolutionaries murdered 303 Chinese individuals. On October 1, 1913, Torreón experienced its second conquest by revolutionary arms this time under the command of Francisco Villa. This is the battle that made Villa into a national leader. He sent 16,000 soldiers who attacked both day and night. It was a very bloody battle that included hand-to-hand combat. On this occasion, there were large fires in the city due to the firing of cannons by mobs of villistas commanded by General Felipe Angeles. In 1916, for the third and last time, Villa conquered Torreon. This time he demanded a large loan of one million pesos. At his request, he ordered that every printed piece of literature that spoke badly of him should be destroyed of burnt.
