This was only one row of sleeping people on the incredibly packed subway. It reflects how people use their time to sleep whenever and wherever they can, and it is not frowned upon but rather a common practice.
I wonder if its also a comment on the time that people are willing to devote to their commute? Its one thing not to nap on the subway if you're on for twenty minutes, but if you change trains four times and commute several hours a day, you've got to get some sleep!
